Tail Worms

Are you planning a vacation in England? Instead of London and the south, why not try the north east of England? It is a region steeped in history, where the natives are friendly, the golden beaches are long and the magnificent landscape. If you love to shop, eat, drink and be merry, make Newcastle upon Tyne - the party capital north - your base. Visit China Town, Eldon Square, Bigg Market and the quayside area for shopping, restaurants and nightlife.

There are lots of places to visit nearby and one is Penshaw Monument. Traveling south of Newcastle on the A1 or A19, and have not gone to the area before, you may be surprised to see a Greek temple that dominates the skyline. The temple stands on Penshaw Hill and was built in 1844 by Thomas Pratt as a monument to the first Earl of Durham, John George Lambton. Follow the path that winds up a hill magnificent views of Durham and the River Wear.

Penshaw, wear and Lambton family, in particular, according to the legend of the Lambton Worm. The worm in question was not common ordinary, all the worms in the garden, but despite that is a modest beginning, a worm or a dragon that grew into a dragon as a giant snake. The local myth was adapted in 1867 from an oral tradition in a pantomime song, written by CM Leumane and performed on stage at the Teatro Tyne in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

There are at least two versions of the song, in the dialect of Northumbria and the other in the dialect of Wearside. One of them is lower, since it is in the dialect of translations of following words may help.

But the worm has a fat growed
and growed,
An 'growed tremendous size,
Hee'd greet large teeth and a big greeting from the Government of Bolivia,

A kraal when neet that aboot,
Ta collect bits "news,
If she was dry on the road,
Coos sucked a dozen

In calves a lamb from a sheep,
Swally A little bairns alive
When put to sleep
One, when he had eaten aa'll he could,
A hed had his fill,
The kraal away and wrapped his tail,

So hyem came and caught the beast,
