It turns out that fishing from a boat part is a great place for field testing of a product. With a cross section of fishermen, fishing with similar gear, all the costumes and bait in almost the same at the same time under the same conditions that make it a reasonably scientific laboratory for which measure the performance of the fishery products. It was a windy, cloudy day in mid-May aboard the Peconic Star in Greenport, NY. We went to try a new product called Esca only catching chance and it is perfectly logical think it would work, but I still could not help being skeptical.

While I have experienced that some equipment from Fluke and Bucktails work better than others and I became a believer in scent baits well, Esca is different. Esca, a Norwegian company, is an attractor for high-tech fish the size of a quarter of issues flashes of light, mimicking the features of luminescence of squid and other bait. Several marine species have developed specialized organs called lightemitting aid. Esca means bring to light, and is used by major agencies in the sea, such as krill and squid. Esca is also the name of the light organ of the anglerfish. This is a long dorsal fin with a body rather light at the end, which is the tinder in itself. The anglerfish lies motionless on the seabed using your tinder to attract other fish.

When prize goes to the tinder, the rape strikes and swallows the prey whole. For the angler, Esca is the final appeal. Esca believe that to be effective, had to be in the dark night. But we were fishing on the day of accident that had to select a location to be used in deeper waters, which is one reason why decided to chance with the Star Fish Peconic, fishing in waters as deep as 70 feet. Depth needed to be dark enough to fund the light Esca to be a factor. I also wanted to be in Peconic Bay off Shelter Island, a place known where the squid are normally present in mid-May, and some very large windfall. Captain Dave Brennan of the Peconic Star has had many fishermen mentioned in the reports of the Fisherman and covers for years. Esca rig was a stranger, so we had to improvise.

Esca is packaged with either a treble hook, or special squid skirt. For a platform that eliminates treble using only Esca other and the rings as a component of a typical three-way platform. We tied the Esca in line with the hook from swinging about 6 inches above the hook. Another platform was linked to the squid body lined with a three-way platform. We have used the bait that the crew of the Star Peconic offered: squid, , Clicking sand eels. Current wind / was heavy that day and was used for 6 pesos, plus an ounce, but the rig does not touch or tangle. What is amazing about this product is that it really is a technological marvel.

The attraction actually generates its own energy upon contact with seawater through electrolysis Esca no need for batteries. The light turns off when no longer attract issuers is in contact with seawater. It lasts through up to 100 hours of active fishing and can withstand pressures to depths of 500 meters, which is good news for tilefishing and other fishing deep water drop. So how'd we do? There were four us Esca fishing gear that day, and 25 others on board. Obviously, this day was the team of Esca. Just caught more than coincidence that others in the boat that day, but more importantly it seemed to have a much better caregiver relationship. Believe me, I intend to become better fishermen than anyone in the ship that day. In fact, Morten Bilet of Esca won the group with the greatest stroke of luck! The kicker is fish that has never happened before. There is only one conclusion which we live, Esca gives it an advantage in the capture of deepwater Fluke and deserves a closer look, especially for ocean fluking. Here's a thought, as a next step, I'll try to Esca Fluke at night! Why not? I also Try it for stripers, tilefish, cod, sea bass and other bottom dwelling. I'm definitely Intrigued by the initial results.
