Judo and BJJ: My Story ...
Around 2001, I started reading about an article online in Jiu-Jitsu and Olympic level players Judo by Dave Camarillo, Dan. He had recently begun training in an oriented Thaiboxing Mixed Martial Arts Club and had begun to learn "bases". He eager to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and here were defending these guys mixing it with Judo. Well there are plenty of "bad press" Judo in the MMA scene in the moment, Judo does not seem to function without a soldier and everyone knew that you just took the back of any Judo player, once he had made a Dubious head and arm throw!
I finally started training BJJ with Brazilian Top Team (BTT) and then continued this when I moved to StraightBlastGym (SBG). It resumed boxing, the fight began, resumed training MMA. The original idea of combining BJJ and Judo never left me completely and at the same time journey, there was one night every night of the week where it was unable to train at SBG but it was a local judo club. So I started training Judo ....
Boys Judo were impressed with my armlocks and chokes but actually found Judo, and particularly the stand-up very hard physically despite thinking I was very fit. Rara Once down as someone took over my gi early, preventing the legs I used twice in wrestling. And every time I went by one leg, always managed to get me. Their reactions seemed faster and even non-Blacks always had a plan, a strategy which focused on landing the same pair techniques, but a set out of a few-ups. Judo continued I went intermittently until BJJ competitions. Suddenly, I was not having a clear focus. Of course it could land double legs in the gym with experienced players similar and pull guard with ease, but the pressure of competition, I felt out of touch.
Eventually, I began to return to article original with Dave and Dan and all became very clear. If you want to compete in BJJ, then you have to practice Judo. This was probably obvious to many others, but I struck like a thunderbolt. Since then, I started to divide my time between BJJ and Judo and has been a clear movement of GI struggling towards the combination of Judo, BJJ and indeed Sambo. Radhi Ferguson, JC Santana, Lloyd Irvin, Saulo Ribeiro, and the clique have done much to raise awareness of this movement in their articles, books and DVDs. And competitors of BJJ and Judo (albeit more slowly) are beginning to follow.
However, although this seems incredibly obvious truth, there follows the tradition of which even the "in the know" are reluctant to move away from. The familiarity, personal preference and comfort are one thing, but the technique wrong, ignorance and fear are quite another. "This is [insert Judo / BJJ when you're in an environment / BJJ Judo]" is a comment I heard many times, in sand. Even in BJJ with more typical "What works attitude" as a reaction, known for his knee to fight to complain when a training partner uchi-mata of them or refused to fire several times on duty. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity and ratings over the last couple of years. Love it or hate it, it seems that the UFC is here to stay. Consequently many men in the 18 - 34 years of age are increasingly interested in martial arts.
After seeing great front and Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva and Houston Alexander and seeing the incredible fighting skills and fighting Randy Couture, Matt Hughes and BJ Penn, many martial artists ask the question "Does my martial art that I the UFC?
The answer to this question is very simple.
No, not the martial art will take you to the UFC! Making such a time, instead of undefined.
OK, now I can tell that some of you may be surprised by a line left of you, your chosen martial art and aspirations of UFC. After all do not know about you but I want to expand my answer so you know where I come from.
Styles First, it is important to understand nobody has all the style of the elements of a complete combat system for success in the Octagon, but many have a lot of them. The UFC, Pride, WEC and Elite XC are labeled in the category "Mixed Martial Arts. This should tell you a lot in relation to the question whether his martial art will take you to the UFC. Mixed martial arts is exactly what it says it is - a mixture of several different martial arts came together to create a complete set of technical skills necessary for survival in the ring, cage or octagon (or street, for that matter!)
To be a successful UFC fighter is necessary to have a great stand-up game and a great pitch. Besides this you need to learn to carry Downs and dismantling defenses. This does not even include physical conditioning or mental aspect of preparation for a fight. So here are some suggestions as to the styles that you must study to give the best chance to become a good fighter.
Achieving · Skills: Boxing, Muay Thai, Shotokan, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Savate
· Take-Downs: Judo, Hapkido, Sanda (San Shou), Sambo,
· Grappling and Petitions: Wrestling, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, Japanese Jujitsu, Aikido
There are many other martial arts in this list that are also worthy of study in depth, and some of them in the list includes all the competencies above to a greater or lesser degree.
This is your martial art reach the UFC? Not by itself, but if you combine the power of his chosen art with the missing elements that need some other styles above, then you are well on your way.
