A fishing rod can be considered as a tool that is used for casting and fishing line repositioning and playing the fish to reel in the beach or boat. A fisherman could also think of a fly rod as an extension of their own anatomy, like a long thin finger. By launching a line, energy is transferred from a fisherman's forearm and wrist through the fly rod to the line at the end of the rod, which provides energy to drive the leader, and flies to 90 or even 100 meters away in the lake, river, stream or fishing entity other water sources.

The most fishing rods are made of bamboo, but can also be made of graphite, fiberglass, and boron / graphite. A piece fly rods are few and infrequent, because it would be difficult to put one 8 'foot piece rod inside the trunk of a car. The most common types of fly rods are two pieces, but three-piece and four piece fly rods are frequent and are very practical. * "Ring Type" - These are designed for small reels and light fly rods, and consist of two thin metal strips that are forced on the feet of the fly reel.

** Although it seems safer than they are, a fisherman or woman should avoid the coils that weigh more than 3 ounces with this type of reel seat.

* "Lock Screw - This type consists of a metal bell fixed on the underside of the seat, along with a hood over the top of the seat, which can be screwed feet on the reel seat.

* "Reverse lock screw" - This is exactly the same as the lock screw, except that the fixed hood is on the other end of the seat, and is often buried within the cork grip. The band thread screws "up" to the hilt. This type is often called "up-lock, as opposed to "down-lock reel seat above. This is the most common type of reel used today.

** The handle of a cane fly functions as the handle of the rod. Fists of common usage, to a larger diameter, are:

* Super Grip

* Cigar Grip

* Half Wells Grip

* Full Wells Grip

** People with small hands generally prefer the smaller diameter grab bars in flight. People with large hands feel more comfortable with something like a full wells grip. Further up a fly rod, it being a small ring or a hook called "hook keeper." When a fisherman or woman is not fishing, a fly gets caught in the keeper of the "hook" to avoid which is caught in the brush side stream or a fisherman's clothing. Not all fly rods have this "keeper hook," because, for example, bars in salt water, it tends to get in the way when shooting (or casting) of great length of the line.
