The good news about prostate cancer that is almost 100% curable if detected early.
The bad news is that most men do not do regular reviews. In addition, men often ignore the symptoms of prostate disease or cancer, such as urination frequent and weak urine flow. And once you recognize these symptoms in most cases it might be too late.
The ugly. African Americans and those with a family history of prostate cancer are most at risk.
I'm Thomas Lindsey and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer about a year ago. And I am here writing to healthier, happier and in better shape than I was. Let me share with you some things I have learned and what I did to overcome my illness.
Other risk factors for prostate disease or prostate cancer
* Having close relatives (father, brother or son) with prostate cancer doubles the risk of disease.
* Having two of the increases above risk of 3 or 4 times.
* Having three of the above increases the risk by a factor of 8-10 times.
Vasectomy Yes or No?
Early reports had suggested that vasectomy may promote prostate cancer. However, after further research, current thinking is that vasectomy has nothing to do with prostate cancer.
If you've had a vasectomy does not need to take any special precautions. To hold their regular checkups.
Preventing Prostate Problems
Eat less fat: As with heart disease and other forms of cancer, prostate cancer is more prominent among men who eat a diet high in fat. And the worst thing you can eat saturated fat (that goes for all of us). Eat less meat and increasing their levels of fruits, vegetables, grains and non-fat dairy.
Do not Smoke Men who smoke have an increased risk prostate cancer. The risk is not dramatically larger, but it's better not to smoke at all. If you have any of the above risk factors, it is very important not to smoke.
Have regular checkups after age 50, you should have a prostate exam. If you have any risk factors, you should start with them when they turn 40. Make sure you get the blood test for prostate specific antigen (PSA) as well.
