Eczema and Dermatiti
Contact dermatitis:
This condition is caused by an allergy to certain substances that can touch the skin. If you are very allergic, for example, poison ivy, dermatitis develops within 48 hours after exposure. The blisters of the skin becomes red and irritated, even beyond the point of contact, and small unfold. These may coalesce to form large blisters, which then rupture and form scabs. What is the treatment?
Self-help: Eczema on the contrary improve if you wear rubber gloves over white cotton gloves in contact with irritants like water dish. Dry hands thoroughly after washing, and applying an unscented hand cream several times a day.
If you avoid what is causing contact dermatitis, the condition should disappear within few weeks. You can speed the process by using a steroid cream containing 0.5 percent hydrocortisone. Such creams are available without prescription.
Professional help: For any of the described types of eczema, your doctor may prescribe a steroid cream or ointment to a different force or substance. These preparations involve some slight risks.
Severe itching can be a little relieved by antihistamine tablets. However, these cause drowsiness and reduce driving ability, so your doctor may advise you to take them only at bedtime. Eczema exacerbated by a bacterial infection can be treated with antibiotics.
If your doctor suspects you have a contact dermatitis, he or she will discuss with you the possible causes. Then patch tests (the application of irritants suspicion of the skin) can be used to try to identify the specific cause.
